Putting the “Tiny” in “Community”: Our Partnership with the Heartwood School

It’s incredible seeing the design we had worked so hard on over the last several months become a real structure!

We are thrilled to announce our partnership with The Heartwood School for the Homebuilding Crafts!  The school is located in Western Massachusetts and offers courses in different aspects of woodworking and carpentry.  We chose to partner with Heartwood because we wanted our house to be a learning experience for others, and we like being connected with the local community in this way.  It is a win-win scenario.

Many of the students and apprentices taking the 2-week homebuilding course had specific projects in mind that they hoped to accomplish, while others sought general knowledge about home design and construction.

We love knowing that our tiny house has allowed students to gain hands-on experience that will help them with their own carpentry goals.

On the second day of the course, we met the students and gave a presentation about the tiny house.  When we went back to visit for the end-of-course campfire party, we were amazed at how much progress they had made!

Next, there’s a 1 week finish carpentry course which will involve installing the windows, door, exterior trim, and about half of the siding…then we get to pick up the house!  It is nice to finally refer to it as a house rather than a trailer.
